Music Theory e1 : Sound and the Octave

Be sure to understand the following key terms.

Chord : Three or more notes played together.

Chromatic : A small increase or decrease in pitch, or frequency. One twelfth of an octave. An example of a chromatic step would be from A to A#.

Frequency : The pitch of the sound wave.

Note : A single pitch, represented by a letter. For example, Bb or D.

Octave : When the frequency of a sound doubles, you have gone up an octave in pitch.

Scale : A succession of notes within the octave.
