Music Theory e2 : Note names, Whole steps, and Half steps

Be sure to understand the following key terms.

Flat(b) : A musical note name with the flat symbol represents one half step lower than the natural pitch.

Half-Step : One chromatic step up or down from a note. For example, from F# to G.

Natural : A note without the sharp or flat symbol.

Sharp(#) : A musical note name with the sharp symbol represents one half step higher than the natural pitch.

Whole-Step : Two chromatic steps up or down. For example, from D to E.

Test your understanding!

2. What note is a whole step below G#?
3. What note is a half step above E?
